DAY 01 |
arrive in Guilin
You will fly to Guilin, which is located in
Guangxi province of southern China. Famous
people and poets down through the centuries have
eulogized Guilin’s scenery. It really has to be
seen to be believed. The mountains are so sheer
they come vertically out of the ground, as
Guilin has some of the most spectacular karst
topography in the world. The tooth-like
limestone mountains come in clusters, or as
isolated monoliths or mesas, often with caves,
and sometimes with holes all the way through,
like Elephant Hill and Moon Hill in Yangshuo.
Upon your arrival at the airport you will be met
by your English-speaking guide, and from the
airport you will be taken to your hotel, and the
rest of the evening can be spent at your
discretion.

DAY 02 |
Guilin (B, L)
Today will be a full day of exploring beautiful
Guilin. After breakfast we’ll get started with a
visit to Reed Flute Cave. The Reed Flute Cave (Ludi
Yan) is a fascinating gallery of natural
sculpture (limestone cave formations), now
enhanced by multicolored lighting, which has
been one of Guilin’s many interesting
attractions for over 1200 years. It rates as one
of the top four tourist sites in the city. The
cave is about 240 meters long and a tour lasts
about one hour. Along the u-shaped route, you
will have ample time see the oddly shaped rocks
and stone pillars while the guide narrates
interesting stories about them. Illuminated by
the colored lights, the cave looks like a
dazzling underground palace. That’s why the cave
is also known as the Nature’s Art Palace.
Then it is off to the Elephant Trunk Hill, a
major landmark of the city. Located at the
confluence of the Li River and Peach Blossom
River in the south central area of Guilin City,
it looks like a huge elephant stretching its
trunk and drinking water, hence the name.
Elephant Trunk Hill is the symbol of Guilin and
its karst landscape.
Capping off our day will be a trip to Fubo Hill.
Fubo (wave-subduing) Hill to the northeast of
downtown Guilin contains the Xinxi Marquis
Temple, which was built during the Tang Dynasty
(618-907). The title of Xinxi Marquis was given
to Fubo General Ma Yuan, hence the name of the
mountain. Half of the graceful lone peak of the
hill is in the river and the other half is on
land. During flood season turbulent currents
explode against the hill rocks. On top of the
hill one sees exquisite scenery that appears
like a traditional Chinese painting. Inside the
"Return the Pearl" Cave, also known as Fubo Cave
in the mountainside, there is the "Try the
Sword" Rock, the 1,000-Buddha Crag (Buddha
images carved on stone), and many carvings on
the cave walls. Among the best carvings is a
self-portrait of Mi Fu, a famous painter, and a
poem by Fan Dacheng, a famous poet, both from
the Song Dynasty (960-1279).

DAY 03 |
Guilin-Yanghsuo (B, L)
Today you will be cruising down one of the
world’s most stunning rivers, the Li. Gorgeous
karst peaks give you surprises at each bend of
the limpid river under the blue sky. Water
buffalo patrol the fields, peasants reap rice
paddies, school kids and fisherman float by on
bamboo rafts. With its breathtaking scenery and
taste of a life far removed from the concrete
metropolis, the scenery along the Li River
become one of China's top tourist destinations.
Some of the highlights you will see on your
7-8hour cruise will be Elephant Trunk Hill, a
hill resembling an Elephant taking water from
its trunk, Pagoda Hill, just a few minutes away
from the Elephant Trunk Hill, Daxu Town, an
ancient river town, and of course you will also
see local fisherman and workers over their
normal course of work. The cruise down the Li
River offers a fascinating insight into the
lives of the local population here.
Our cruise will terminate at Yangshuo, a lush
and exotic county that includes minority groups
from all over Asia. You’ll have some time to
explore the city and do some gift-hunting.
In the evening you will be treated to a
performance of the” Impression on Sanjie Liu”.
Maybe you have heard of the film 'Sanjie Liu'
produced in 1961, which made the Li River famous
worldwide. Sanjie Liu is a fairy singer in the
myths and legends of the Zhuang ethnic minority.
She is incomparably beautiful, and has voice to
match her beauty. In the 'Impression on Sanjie
Liu', what you can see are the impressions
derived from the daily life of the people living
around the Li River, rather than the specific
details of the stories. From these impressions,
you will gain a realistic impression on the
background of Sanjie's birthplace and understand
the beauty of the folk songs' hometown. The
performance is divided into seven chapters
including the preface and epilogue. In addition,
the performance also boasts both modern and
classical music played by famous musicians of
China. Additionally, there are in excess of 600
performers, all of whom are local people of the
Li River. They present the reality of life for
the people in Sanjie's hometown through their
primitive and wonderful performances.

DAY 04 |
Yangshuo-Guilin (B, L)
In the morning we will make the short drive back
to Guilin, and if time permits before your
flight, we’ll visit the Big Banyan Tree Park in
Yanghsuo. It has survived from wind and rain
over centuries since the Sui Dynasty (581-618),
and is one of the main scenic attractions of
Yangshuo. This tree is 7 meters (about 23 feet)
in width and 17 meters (about 55.8 feet) in
height, and has experienced extensive growth
over the years.
Although its stem is very old and its roots
twist, its branches and leaves stretch out so
lushly that the sunshine hardly penetrates its
shadow. Sitting in its shadow on even the
hottest day of the summer, you barely break out
in a sweat.
Afterward, you will be taken to the airport,
where you will fly on to your next destination.
