Day 1 : Beijing-Luoyang (by train)
At about 10pm your English-speaking guide and driver will come to pick you up from your partment and drive you to Beijing West Railway Station. At the station you will catch the overnight train to Luoyang, home to the Shaolin Temple and their monks. |
Day 2 : Luoyang (B, L)
Upon your arrival you will be met by your local English-speaking guide and driver. After breakfast we will travel to the 1,500 year old Shaolin Monastery, the birthplace of Kung Fu-the original form of all martial arts. This temple is situated at the western edge of the Songshan Mountains. Shaolin Temple embraces many exciting attractions, such as the Hall of Heavenly Kings (Tianwangdian), the Mahavira Hall (Daxiongbaodian), the Pagoda Forest, the Dharma Cave and the Shaolin Temple Martial Art Training Center.
In the Thousand Buddhas Hall, you can still see the footprints of the monks stamped on the floor-a reminder of the intensity of their practice. Here, you will be treated to a live two-hour Kung Fu demonstration performed by the Grandmasters and monks.
After our tour of the Shaolin Temple we will head to the nearby grottoes of Longmen. The grottoes contain one of the three most important Buddhist sculptures and carvings in China. The Longmen Grottos enjoy a good location where two mountains confront each other between which flows the Yihe River. Carved from a solid rock mountain over 1,500 years ago, the site has over 2,345 caves and more than 100,000 statues of Buddha. Chinese noblemen sponsored the creation of most of these statues, ranging in height from miniature (1 inch high) to gigantic (57 ft.) The Longmen Grottos are of great value in world sculpture history, and it has been listed as a World Cultural Heritage Site by UNESCO.
After our visit to the Longmen Grottoes you will be taken to the train station and you will take the overnight train back to Beijing. |
Day 3 : Luoyang-Beijing (by train)
Upon arrival at Beijing West Railway Station (at about 6:30am) you will be met by your guide and driver. They will drive you back to your hotel, thus ending the tour. |
