Shanghai World Expo Ticketing Types
There are two broad categories of tickets, Peak Day and
Standard Day. Peak Day refers to expo tickets during 2 of
China’s biggest holidays, May Day (May 1-3) and National Day
(October 1-7). Ordering before the expo’s May 1 start, a
Peak Day ticket was 180 yuan (US $26.37) and a Standard Day
ticket was 140 yuan (US $20.49). However, once the expo
starts, the ticket prices for each will increase by 20 yuan.
In addition to these 1-day tickets, there are also 3 day and
7 day World Expo passes, 400 yuan (US $58.60) and 900 yuan
(US $131.84) respectively. Tickets for the first three days
of the World Expo are already practically sold out.
The Peak Day tickets were in hot demand, said Zhang Haodong,
an official of the Ticketing Center of the Bureau of
Shanghai World Expo Coordination. Long queues formed at most
of the selling outlets in Shanghai. A 72-year-old man waited
in front of a local post office from 3am to buy four
peak-day tickets. The organizer expects 17 days, including
the last week of Expo (October 25 to 31) to attract the most
visitors. The organizer may issue more peak-day tickets to
the public, according to Zhang, who urged people to buy
these tickets "as early as possible."
