The Panjiayuan Market is a super shopping market (malls) for all Chinese
arts and crafts. It is made up of over three thousand individual
stalls covering 48,500 square metres and it Market is a sprawling
gargantuan living being that comes to life in the wee hours of
Saturday morning as the vendors set up their stalls and display
their wares.
One
day, even one weekend, is not enough to see everything there is on
offer, but thankfully, there is some method to the shopping madness.
There really is something for everyone here. Even Hilary Clinton has
shopped at Panjiayuan.
Panjiayuan Market is at its best on weekends. The Antique Zone is
open every day and the Arts and Crafts Warehouse Zone is open on
Saturday and Sunday only.
Wares are somewhat divided according to type, so you'll find jewelry
(pearls, amber, jade) in one section, furniture in another, etc. For
bargain hunters it's a dream come true
