Understand Beijing Traffic
and Tourist Flood
China is now the most visited
country in the world. While this is great for us travel
agencies, it does create problems and concerns that we want
to make you aware of. Beijing has possibly the worst traffic
in the world. In order for us to get as much time on the
Great Wall as possible we start the day early. This means
you may be picked up as early as 7 am in order to avoid the
morning rush hour. This gives us time to pick up all of our
guests at their different hotels (this will take 1-2 hours
before leaving the city). Similarly, when we return to
Beijing, it will be the evening rush hour. This means that
will take approximately 1-3hours before the tour bus finally
drops off all travelers. This is why our tour guides advise
you to take the subway or a taxi in order to get back to
your hotel. We feel it is better spent this way than wasting
time in bumper-to-bumper traffic.
During the
high season (April to October), tens of millions of local
Chinese tourists flood into Beijing. This causes an
overwhelmingly large demand for all services including
restaurants. When you have lunch, it will be at an attached
restaurant next to your shopping stop. These restaurants
must serve thousands of customers daily, and unfortunately
the lunch will probably not be as good as one in the city.
If you wish to avoid these problems it is recommended that
you take a private tour. Because you are the only one
participating it dramatically cuts back on time.
We thank you for your patience and understanding, and we
hope to see you real soon!
