DAY 02 |
Yangtze River Cruise (B, L, D)
In the morning, the cruise ship will
depart, thus marking the beginning of
your Yangtze River cruise. Yangtze
cruise ships travel slowly for
passengers to enjoy the beautiful
scenery. Broadcasts from the ship’s PA
system transmits information on shore
excursions or from guest lecturers to
your cabin, ensure that you will not
miss a chance to see any special
scenery; even if you are relaxing in
your cabin.
Early on in your cruise, you will arrive
at the enormous Three Gorges Dam.
Construction was begun in the 80's, and
was completed in 2008. It backs up the
Yangtze River for 550km, making it the
world's largest dam. Due to the fact
that the water rises to a level of 185m
behind the dam, millions of people have
had to be resettled, bridges moved and
historical relicts secured. The energy
production capabilities of the dam are
estimated at 84.7 billion kilowatts,
equivalent to 18 nuclear reactors. The
three single stage locks guarantee that
ship traffic is not delayed.
The Three gorges Dam is the largest
water conservancy project undertaken by
man, and various Chinese officials have
dreamed about the project for hundreds
of years. It is 2,335 meters wide on the
top, and 130 meters wide at the bottom.
The views from the top of the dam are
stunning, so don’t forget to bring your
camera! |

You will take a small junk boat from the
cruise ship in Badong to Shennong

DAY 04 |
Yangtze River Cruise (B, L, D)
Today features another exciting onshore
excursion, as you will visit the town of
Wanxian. Located at the northern bank of
the upper reaches of Yangtze River,
Wanxian City has a history of over 1,500
years. The city is named Wanxian because
tens of thousands of merchants gathered
here to conduct business in the distant
past. The scenery in Wanxian is
marvelous. The Bell Tower built in 1930
in Xishan Park (West Hill Park) in the
Chinese traditional architecture style
is worth your visit.
In Wanxian you will be able to visit the
famous Wanxian rattan and cane market
that is held on the road of Shengli Lu.
Buyers and sellers mingle in a frenzy of
bargaining for handmade summer bed mats,
fans, hats, straw shoes, furniture and
basketry. Small, round, red- trimmed
baskets with lids are the most popular
item and are well known throughout
China. Roadside stalls trade in spicy
noodles and cooling, opaque soyabean
jelly and fresh fruit. ln the mornings,
just a little further west of the night
market area, one of the city's ten free
markets sells local produce and seasonal
delicacies such as mountain mushrooms or
live eels. Second Street (Er Malu) is
the main shopping thoroughfare.
You will also get to see a performance
of the Three Gorges Acrobatic Troupe.
Here is one person’s description:
“The lights dimmed and the performance
began with a bang. First, a young man on
a unicycle performed ... moving,
turning, stopping abruptly, jumping ...
all as if the unicycle were simply an
extension of his own legs. A young lady,
a contortionist, bent her body and limbs
in ways we wouldn't have thought
possible. Another young lady balanced
five stacks of fine glassware ... one on
each hand, one on each foot and another
on her head ... and all the while
rolling her body over 360 degrees. She
did it once ... then she did it again in
reverse. Incredible!”
In addition you will see magicians,
bicyclists, and other great
entertainment! |
