Distinguish the garden from the district
The retained program includes Yu Garden and the Old City, but these are not interchangeable stops. Visiting the garden interior requires its own admission arrangement. Walking through the surrounding shopping and public areas gives a different experience and should not be described as an inside garden visit.
Explore at walking pace
Inside the garden, the interest lies in the relationship between water, rocks, planting and built spaces. A guide can help you notice how views are framed and how a small area can feel more varied as you move through it. Steps, thresholds and narrow passages may affect the route for guests with mobility concerns.
Allow time for the neighboring streets
Outside, continue through the Old City area for the streetscape, shops and local atmosphere. You can leave time for browsing without making purchases a required part of the visit. If you would like a food stop, discuss it beforehand so the timing and any dietary requirements are clear.
Return or continue sightseeing
Meet the driver for your hotel transfer, or combine the visit with another Shanghai stop agreed in advance. The Bund is a possible separate part of a city day, but it is not automatically included in a focused Yu Garden booking.
