Start where the Wall meets the coast
The published nine-day route introduces Old Dragon’s Head and Shanhaiguan before the mountain walking at Jiaoshan. This coastal opening gives a different perspective from starting directly at a Beijing-area trailhead.
Move inland through passes and history
The Eastern Qing Tombs add a cultural stage before the route continues to Huangyaguan and its steeper walking. Later days explore Jinshanling, Gubeikou and Jiankou, showing how the defenses change across the region.
Finish with contrasting Beijing-area sections
The itinerary continues from Jiankou toward restored Mutianyu and concludes around Huanghuacheng’s lakeside landscape. The final days provide clear contrasts in terrain and preservation, rather than simply repeating the opening hikes.
Review the expedition rhythm
Nine days require attention to the cumulative effort, transfers and local accommodation. The day-by-day plan sets out the intended sequence; your proposal confirms actual access, facilities, meal arrangements and any camping alternative. A cultural visit may provide a different pace but is still part of an active travel day.
Planning your visit
Ask us to assess the full route against your hiking experience and onward schedule, especially if you plan to leave Beijing immediately after the final day.
