Detailed itinerary
Day 1: Arrive in Zhangjiajie
Your guide meets you at the airport or railway station and takes you to the hotel. Spend the evening at leisure before beginning the wider Hunan circuit. The route combines the Wulingyuan mountain landscape with towns and river valleys farther south.
Day 2: The Mengdong River area, Furong and Fenghuang
Travel toward Fenghuang through the Mengdong River region, with a visit to Furong on the way. The town’s wooden buildings and hillside setting provide an introduction to the local architectural landscape.
The planned itinerary includes a rafting opportunity in the river area. This activity depends on season, water conditions and participant suitability; we confirm whether it forms part of your departure.
Continue to Fenghuang, where riverside houses and lanes follow the Tuojiang River. Stay in the town overnight and enjoy time around the water after the day’s drive.

Day 3: Fenghuang’s houses and literary heritage
Visit the former residence of writer Shen Congwen and explore streets lined with courtyards and stilted riverside buildings. The morning is an opportunity to look beyond the panoramic views and examine the town’s built details.
Drive back to Zhangjiajie, arriving in time for an evening at leisure.

Day 4: Zhangjiajie National Forest Park
Spend the day in the forest park, including the Golden Whip Stream area and Huangshizhai, known as Yellow Stone Village, where access permits. Valley paths and elevated viewpoints reveal the sandstone formations from different perspectives.
The amount of walking and use of scenic transport are set around your ability and the operating routes. Overnight accommodation in or near the park is confirmed in advance.

Day 5: Tianzi Mountain and Yellow Dragon Cave
Explore Tianzi Mountain using the arranged cable-car route, then visit Yellow Dragon Cave if your departure schedule allows. Transfer to the airport or station after the sightseeing.
