Detailed itinerary

Day 1: Shanghai to Suzhou

Travel from Shanghai to Suzhou using the transfer arranged in your booking. Check into your hotel and spend the remainder of the day at leisure. This arrival day leaves time to settle in before the main garden visits.

Day 2: Water, rock and garden design

Begin at the Humble Administrator’s Garden. Paths, pavilions and framed views lead around the water, revealing how a garden can unfold as a sequence of smaller scenes rather than a single panorama.

Continue to Tiger Hill for a different landscape of historic structures, paths and viewpoints. Your guide introduces the stories associated with the site and explains how it fits into Suzhou’s cultural history.

At the Lingering Garden, compare the arrangement of halls, courtyards and sculptural rocks with the earlier visit. The route then includes Canglang Pavilion, where the relationship between buildings, water and planting creates another interpretation of the scholar’s garden.

These gardens are best appreciated on foot. The guide adjusts the pace to allow time to look closely at doors, windows, rock forms and the shifting views between spaces.

Day 3: Return or extend the journey

Transfer back to Shanghai after your Suzhou stay. A continuation to Hangzhou can be discussed as an extension, with transport and sightseeing quoted separately.

Planning your visit

The full garden day includes considerable walking. Let us know if you would prefer a shorter selection with longer visits; admissions, hotel arrangements and transfers are confirmed in the proposal.
