Identify the correct departure
Dongzhimen serves multiple transport functions, so arriving at the station does not by itself identify the right bus or collection area. Your trip instructions should name the service, destination and place to board. Check these details before leaving your hotel, particularly if the journey includes an independent public-transport section.
Separate the city bus from the local transfer
The retained route runs from Dongzhimen through an outbound coach or transfer to the Great Wall area. Some programs require a local handover after the longer bus journey. Know where that happens, who will meet you and which contact to use if the bus arrives later than expected.
Keep the route details accessible
Save the destination name, meeting instructions and booking contact on your phone, with an offline copy if possible. Follow the confirmed route rather than boarding a service because it appears to head generally toward the same region.
Plan the return before departure
Check the last practical connection and how to reach it from the hiking exit. The service used to leave Beijing may not be the same as the one used to return. A hiking day should leave enough time to complete every stage of that journey.
Planning your visit
Public routes and departure areas can change. Use the current instructions supplied with the tour, including the local pickup and the agreed return connection.
